From a humble origin to become one of the most popular and sought after action directors in Hindi film industry, Mr Sham Kaushal has come a long way in his 31 years long career as Action Director. He has the prestigious Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionare along with Hindi superhits like Padmavat, Kaabil, Sanju, Dangal, Bajirao Mastani, Krrish 2 & 3, Bajrangi Bhaijan, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dhoom 3, Ram Leela, Raajneeti, Phantom, Kaminey, Om Shanti Om, Gundey, Ishaqzaade & realistic Films like Blackfriday, Parzania, 1971, A Wednesday and The Reluctant Fundamentalist to his credit. Apart from many other prestigious awards he has got four Filmfare Awards, maximum any Action Director has got. He is thankful to God for being so kind to him.
He was born in a small village called Mirzapur near Tanda in Punjab, India. He did his Post graduation in English literature from Govt college, Hoshiarpur in Punjab. The journey from his native Punjab village to Mumbai was solely for survival with no intention or ambition in films. His first job as a sales representative lasted only for an year as he realised his interests were somewhere else. A chance meeting with some stunt men in the neighbourhood, who worked with big names in the industry then, changed Sham's destiny! He worked as a stuntman for 7 years before getting the big break as an independent action director in 1990.
His first movie as an Action director was a Malayalam movie called 'Indrajalam' directed by Mr Thampy Kannamthanam which starred Malayalam super star Mohanlal. This was followed by 'Prahaar' directed by veteran actor Nana Patekar. The realistic and raw action scenes got him noticed in the industry. He won the best new action director award for the movie . The journey continues with all the big directors in the industry swear by his professionalism.
